What is STEGLATRO?
Ertugliflozin has been studied in six clinical trials regarding its efficacy and safety among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It has been compared to placebo, sitagliptin, and glimepiride. Hemoglobin A1c reduction has ranged from 0.68% to 1.5%; this range may be wide due to trials investigating its use as monotherapy or combination therapy. Weight loss has also ranged from 0.7 to 4.3 kg. It has not been compare to other SGLT-2 inhibitors.
Ertugliflozin is used with a proper diet and exercise program to control high blood sugar in people with type 2 diabetes. Controlling high blood sugar helps prevent kidney damage, blindness, nerve problems, loss of limbs, and sexual function problems. Proper control of diabetes may also lessen your risk of a heart attack or stroke. Ertugliflozin works by increasing the removal of sugar by your kidneys.
